I sure wish I could find a pair of these.

Problem is they’ve been out of production for like 35 years.

While they pop up on eBay, they’re rarely in pairs, and never in 2.5 inlet/outlet, which is the size I need.

Cherry Bomb makes repops (but painted red, but of course, not in 2.5 inch diameter (which makes no sense to me- most muscle car guys won’t run smaller than 2.5 inch exhaust, so they’re alienating a rather sizable market I’d imagine)

Ah, memories. Not only were they loud but they were cheap too which made them even more popular with the yutes. They really got loud after the packing inevitably burned out.

I’m used to loud lol.

The Chevelle has 3 inch pipes with Dynomax Bullets.

Add a 4.56 gear on top of it so you’re screaming down the road at any speed and.... yeah. Not very bright but that’s what makes that one fun lol.

Not sure about any of them. A lot of the old timers say they had a real unique sound and weren’t your typical glasspack.

That’s part of why I want to try to find an original pair.

Also, the red Thrush are basically the same as a Cherry Bomb. The Tin-Can style apparently were different internally but a lot of research is contradictory.

Appreciate the effort, though.

I had Thrush on my high school car, a Gran Torino,  way back when. That hacked together exhaust probably sounded like crap to everyone else but I loved it. I had cherry bombs on my first Camaro. I still appreciated the sound most of the time but it was kind of embarrassing in traffic. My current Camaro just has regular performance mufflers.

Way I see it, doesn’t matter to me if people think I’m obnoxious (though I try not to be- I’ve never had it out later than 8 PM), it makes me happy and that’s all that matters.

Just buy one at a time. I bought combat rims for my military truck as I found them, I had three for a while!

One thrush:

Funnily enough a friend and I are working on replicating some old marine mufflers he’s got. Sounds like there might be a market for a copy of they really were that distinctive.

The issue is the inlet/outlet sizes.

Otherwise, I’d be glad to.

But apparently 2.5 inch ones are made of Unobtanium.

Yeah there are always some vintage parts people want. I looked for a special head for my 230 flathead, the originals are rare and the new ones shops make are $1000. I got lucky with some stuff being included but otherwise I’m d amned either way. Ahhh the joys of classic vehicles. Just have to settle for something pretty nice sometimes, I do love the knowledge that an original part is on the car/truck.

I remember my high school buddy showed up at the house one Friday night in his ‘74 Camaro. He had just put headers on the thing and some straight Thrush mufflers bolted to the collectors. No other exhaust piping. Damn! You couldn’t even talk in that car and I felt the vibration in my chest. It was a lot like an airplane in that you could feel the out of phase exhaust pulses coming from each side into your body. It was just a roar. I think the cops got him on that one and he “fixed” it with some “Hush Thrush” duals and a behind the wheels exhaust pipe.

Frankly, now that I have personally heard the before and after of a muffler-style glass pack (pypes) it didnt change the sound from open headers at all, other than making it quieter. Unless you’ve heard the thrushes I am not sure why you would want/need them. I am a big fan of glass packs in g eneral though.
